Gareth O’Callaghan, Director of JCA Architects will give a tour of the refurbished Cork Savings Bank building on No.1 Lapps Quay.
JCA were employed by Cork City Council to prepare a Feasibility Study and an Architectural Proposal for the reuse of this former historic Savings Bank as a civic building.
Located on a prominent site on the corner of Lapp’s Quay, this protected structure, designed by Sir Thomas Deane, is a landmark building in the city. JCA provided a scheme where creative reuse of the former bank allowed for new uses such as entertainment, banqueting and civic functions while retaining the original footprint and decorative interior. The introduction of a three-storey building along the eastern flank allows for connectivity between different elements, improved circulation and additional services.
