We are delighted to have held the second annual Open House Cork on the weekend of the 30th September to the 2nd October, 2016. Open House is a design festival which runs in cities across the world, celebrating the best architecture each city has to offer, and we were very excited to bring the event to Cork for a second time and to have so many celebrate with us by taking part!

Our series of talks, tours, workshops, exhibitions & readings held in buildings all over the city showcased the rich and varying architecture of Cork, with all events being completely free, and mostly available on a first come, first served basis. Please feel free to explore our programme of OH Buildings and OH Plus Events here to get a taste of what the weekend offered this year.

Many thanks to all who took part in this year’s weekend celebrating architecture, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

Open House Cork 2016 Programme

How Does Open House Cork Work?

Open House Cork (OHC) invites all citizens to explore their city. It works through a simple but powerful idea: showcasing outstanding architecture for everyone to experience. Buildings that aren’t usually accessible to the public open their doors for one weekend only, with tours provided by expert guides. All OHC tours and events are completely FREE!

What to expect

Our friendly, helpful OHC guides and volunteer stewards will be at each building to greet and assist you. Building tours are usually led by the architect or a person very familiar with the building. They will be sharing their knowledge and insight, but they’re keen to chat too and welcome your questions. Tours will generally last approximately 30 minutes.

Open House Building Tours

Unless otherwise stated, our building tours are on a first come, first served basis; so, just show up during the listed opening times and join the next available tour. This is a family friendly weekend, however children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.

We want to hear from you! If you have any feedback, suggestions or want to help out, get in touch with us by email at We would be delighted to receive your feedback from the weekend so that we can continue to deliver the best possible OHC every year!

We’re here to help – as this is a free event, all Open House Cork (OHC) volunteers and guides are generously giving up their time in order for OHC to be a fantastic success, so please be patient and expect queues at some venues. The opening times, security arrangements and refusal of entry are controlled by the owners of each building. Please respect building owners and their privacy, and be mindful of noise and photo-taking. Some buildings have limited space and access. Participation in any OHC event is at your own risk. Tours are organised by the participating institutions in cooperation with OHC.
